Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, The Social Network) is easily one of my favorite writers. The man is brilliant with words, but he needs to write for the write right subject matter or else it just doesn’t work. The West Wing was perfect due to the amount of pressure and stress implied with working for the president of the United States. It didn’t work so well with Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, where things tried to be intense, but fell flat. Sorkin is back with a new television series I think looks pretty great. There is a nice vibe of both The West Wing and Sports Night, Sorkin’s two best television series to date. Add to the fact this will be an HBO production and I think we can look forward to some of the best writing on television. Too bad I don’t have cable, I will have to wait to see this when it’s released for streaming or on blu-ray.
The Newsroom stars Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, and Sam Waterson (Sam Waterson!).
